Very interesting take. My aim was to have Mr. Porter become the narrator or his own "ghost" after his death. The crows symbolize other life, before, during, and after Joseph Porter's existence. Once he is removed from the scene, life goes on and he is forgotten, even by the human onlookers.
I loved the opening. I hate being compared to other writers so forgive me but this sounded very Vonnegut.
